Today it is well known that the blue glow of monitors can suppress the production of melatonin, which is responsible for natural sleep. In recent years, many software developers have tried to contribute to the solution of this problem – using special nightly application modes. After all, the influence of properly selected lighting on the user’s performance is not only scientifically proven, but also felt by personal example by thousands of people. So what is this night mode and why is it needed?
Nature and evolution gave the human body a complex mechanism of daily rhythm, which is based on melatonin. This hormone is practically not produced in bright daylight, but with the onset of darkness the process starts, and increasing the concentration of melatonin makes us fall asleep. And in order to deceive your body, a person thought of changing lighting in the workplace.
Many applications-regulators manipulate such parameter of illumination, as temperature of light. For daylight, which is characterized by white and blue shades, it is 6500K, the evening time is painted in yellow-orange shades with a temperature of 1200K, and the night is represented by cold blue and black colors. If we artificially delay the lighting at evening level, we will block the blue color, plus we will not allow the display to switch to bright “daylight” mode, we will get ideal conditions for work in the dark.
Most of the “night modes” in modern OS are linked to the real light day and automatically correct the temperature of light as the sun moves across the sky. Another, simple way is to use a normal mode activation timer. But you can switch this parameter and manually, which is convenient when you need to work with graphic editors and it is important to accurately perceive the shades of color.
